We believe in being upfront about how we fund this site. Here’s exactly how our affiliate relationships work β and what they mean for you.
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Think of it as a finder’s fee. The retailer rewards us for sending them a customer. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid if you’d visited the retailer directly.
How We Earn Commissions
We earn commissions in two ways:
- Pay-per-sale: When you click an affiliate link on one of our guide pages and complete a purchase within a set time window (typically 24 hours for Amazon, longer for some other programmes), we receive a small percentage of the order total.
- Pay-per-lead: In some cases, we may earn a flat fee when you click through and perform a specific action, such as signing up for a retailer’s newsletter or creating an account.
The commission rate varies by retailer and product category. It typically ranges from 1% to 10% of the purchase price. We do not know the exact commission rate for individual products at the time we write about them.
We do not receive free products, sponsorship fees, or payment in exchange for favourable coverage. No manufacturer or retailer has ever paid us to feature, rank, or review a product.

US-based pet supply retailer with a dedicated affiliate programme for pet content creators.
Other Retailers
Occasionally, we may link to other pet tech retailers with their own affiliate schemes. These will always be clearly marked.
No Extra Cost to You
This is the most important thing to understand: you never pay more because you clicked our link.
The price you see on the retailer’s website is the same price you would see if you had navigated there directly. The commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your pocket.
In some cases, you may actually pay less through our links if the retailer is running a promotion or if we have negotiated an exclusive discount code. When this happens, we will always highlight it clearly.
Editorial Independence
Our recommendations are based on research, not revenue. Here’s what that means in practice:
- We write about products regardless of whether an affiliate programme exists for them
- We do not accept payment to feature, rank, or favour specific products
- We do not let commission rates influence which products we recommend
- If the best product in a category has no affiliate programme, we still recommend it β without a link
- We update or remove recommendations when better alternatives emerge, even if it means losing a commission source

How to Identify Affiliate Links
We make affiliate links easy to spot. On our guide pages, the primary call-to-action buttons are styled in our gold accent colour:

Other indicators that a link is an affiliate link:
- The URL contains a tracking tag or referral code (e.g.,
?tag=pawsitivepatch-21on Amazon links) - The link appears on a “guide” or “recommendation” page (our blog posts contain no affiliate links at all)
- A small disclosure note appears near the link, such as “(affiliate link)” or a link to this page
If you are ever unsure whether a link is an affiliate link, hover over it and look at the destination URL in your browser’s status bar, or contact us and we’ll clarify.
FTC Compliance Statement
Pawsitive Patch complies with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Endorsement Guides and equivalent UK regulations, including the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and the CAP Code.
This means we:
- Clearly and conspicuously disclose our affiliate relationships
- Do not make misleading claims about products we have not tested
- Label all affiliate links and sponsored content appropriately
- Ensure our disclosures are easy to find and understand
- Do not use fake testimonials, ratings, or popularity metrics
This disclosure page is linked from every page on our site that contains affiliate links, as well as from our website footer. If you believe we have failed to disclose an affiliate relationship, please let us know immediately and we will correct it.
